Tempers flared Wednesday when an 18-year-old Peoria man was sentenced to up to 20 years in prison for the fatal 2023 Davenport shooting of a Moline man. Lyon county moves on from Annex building
ROCK RAPIDS—After more than a year of teetering back and forth on potential projects, flooding may have helped Lyon County finally find a solution for the Annex Building. Located off First Avenue in Rock Rapids, the Annex Building was home to county’s economic development, public health and engineering departments. The 56-year-old building needed updates to replace the heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems. Renovation plans also included an elevator lift and ramp to bring it up to code with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Register Now for Fall Classes at Iowa Central
While the warmth of the summer is in full swing it is a great time to turn up the heat on your future by furthering your education. Iowa Central Community College offers a wide variety of programs and will begin classes on August 26th. Registration for classes is open and you can start the process of attending Iowa Central with one of the many college admissions representatives. “Our team is here each weekday and ready to help prospective students enroll in classes that will put them on a path to success,” shares Tom Beneke, Vice President of Student Services. Iowa Central offers classes in-person and on-line. “While many students thrive in our face-to-face classes, we do offer many on-line options. Our flexible learning options gives every student a path to earning their degree or certificate,” notes Beneke.
Waterloo Pool Will Be Closing Early for the Season
Officials from the city of Waterloo confirmed that a popular local pool will be closing much earlier for the season than expected. It was announced that Byrnes Pool, located at 801 Campbell Avenue in Waterloo, will be closed for the rest of the summer. The pool closed on Tuesday, July 23rd.
Orange City Man Arrested After Crash
An Orange City man was arrested following the investigation of a car crash near Sioux Center early Saturday evening. 62-year-old William Manchester of Orange City was travelling west on 400th Street two miles east of Sioux Center when he lost control of the Chevy Trailblazer he was driving. The vehicle went into a ditch and rolled onto its top in a creek. Manchester was taken to Sioux Center Health for treatment of minor injuries.
