LAFAYETTE PARISH, La. ( KLFY ) — Every unit at the Youngsville Fire Department will be equipped with a Fido Bag, which has the tools to help save the life of your furry friends in the case of emergencies.

The Fetch Foundation is the nonprofit organization behind the Fido Bag. The nonprofit operates on donations and has a mission to have a bag in every fire station across the country.

Every bag contains wet wipes, gloves, blankets, leashes, burn cream, a water bowl and an oxygen mask.

Youngsville Fire Department Capt. Lindy Bolgiano said the bags will ensure the community that their furry loved ones will also be taken care of during emergencies.

“It really stuck out to me that we need to do more for not just our residents, but their extended family as pet friends as well. What better way for us to give back than to make sure we can assure them that their pets will be taken care of in a crisis or time of need,” Bolgiano said.

The fire captain said that if there is a fire emergency, it is important to remember that children and adults should get to safety first.

“Everything else can be replaced and unfortunately, and as well as we know as pets, we don’t want to say that, but we want to be able to extend them some level of comfort that we’re going to do the best that we can to save their pets and then resuscitate him in this time of need,” Bolgiano said.
