SAN ANGELO, Texas ( Concho Valley Homepage ) —On Aug. 27, Tom Green County commissioners approved the tax rate and budget for the coming year in a public hearing.

Tom Green County Judge Lane Carter brought attention to the value of employee retention in an interview, stating, “What we want to do is retain our employees so we don’t have to constantly train new ones only to lose them.”

Judge Carter also noted that the county will operate at a much lower deficit this year, after several years of financial challenges. Additionally, the commissioners decided to keep the county-wide burn ban in effect.

The decision comes from a previous public hearing held on Aug. 22 and included final adjustments to the budget, keeping the property tax rate at 47 cents per $100 of property value.
