SAN ANGELO, Texas ( Concho Valley Homepage ) — A burst of color now brightens a building on San Angelo’s north side. The new mural, depicting the iconic Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, was created by San Angelo artist Inx Davila. Inx searched for a suitable location for his art and when building owner Steve Ortiz agreed, he took on the project.

Originally from Mexico, Inx moved to San Angelo when he was six years old. “I went to Lincoln I went to Lakeview and I was also very proud to go to those places because I also noted when I walked down the hall there’s so many walks of life, not everybody dresses the same or looks the same.”

Frida, known for her unconventional beauty standards, was a perfect subject to showcase the diversity of San Angelo. Her work dates back to the 1920s and 1930s, where she painted many self-portraits. Today, many artists reinterpret her art as a symbol of femininity and strength.

“that’s another reason why it’s very colorful the reason why there’s animals and plants on here. A lot of her art had that. The abstract, I did her portrait almost in an abstract style if you notice she has a very long neck and her eyes are low like looking down. It’s like you are almost looking up to her. Just making her look like strong women. You know hopefully influences a lot of people.”
