One arrested after allegedly shooting a man in South Columbia Saturday night

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

One person was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, and another person was arrested after allegedly shooting a man at the Buffalo Wild Wings in south Columbia late Saturday night.

According to a release from the Columbia Police Department, Alexis Gonzalez, 36, of Columbia was arrested for first degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

According to CPD spokeswoman Jenny Hopper, at 11:53 p.m. Saturday, police were called to the Buffalo Wild Wings on Nifong Blvd. for a disturbance, which turned into a shots fired call.

According to a Columbia Police Department's Facebook post , officers located one male victim with a gunshot wound.

The victim was later taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Hopper said there was no update on the victim's condition Sunday night.

ABC 17 News saw a large group of people standing outside the restaurant after the shooting. Some restaurant guests were missing shoes and phones in the scuffle like Mizzou student, Aidan Whiting, who left his phone inside.

"We were just sitting in the bar or in the restaurant just watching the UFC fight, and all of a sudden I saw somebody walking or running towards the side door and I thought it was just a regular like fight that was happening," Whiting said. "And then I heard gunshots go off."

ABC 17 News on the scene saw eight Columbia police vehicles, a K9 unit, a MU Health Care ambulance and an Ashland Police vehicle.

At around 1:20 a.m. Sunday, crime scene investigators were on the scene.

Crime scene tape was seen surrounding the front of the restaurant.

The business was closed on Sunday, catching many customers off guard. One customer expressed being surprised.

"We were here to get some wings, and then finding out that there was a shooting is kind of crazy," Adam Woolley said.

ABC 17 also spoke with a nearby business that was unaware of the shooting and was shocked to learn it had occurred so close to their location. The store had already closed for the night when the shooting took place.

ABC 17 News reached out to the general manager of Buffalo Wild Wings to learn when the business plans to reopen.
