Gas station employee’s tip leads to arrest of Knox County Sheriff’s Office suspect
KNOX COUNTY, Ill. (KWQC) - The Knox County Sheriff’s Office arrested a person after receiving a tip from a gas station employee. Alexander Luye, 22, was arrested and charged with operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, failure to remain at the scene of a vehicle damage crash, and driving under the influence of alcohol, according to a media release from the sheriff’s office.

EAST GALESBURG, Ill. (KWQC) - The Knox County Sheriff’s Office said the body of a 77-year-old man was found by crews at a house fire early Saturday morning. When crews from East Galesburg Fire Department, Knoxville Fire Department, and Galesburg ambulance arrived at 1:29 a.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Illinois Avenue, they saw flames at the front of the house.

According to the Knox County Sheriff's Office, firefighters from East Galesburg and Knoxville responded to reports of a structure fire in the 300 block of Illinois Avenue shortly before 1:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they extinguished flames at the front of the residence before entering the home and finding the victim.

Knox County seeks short-term State’s Attorney
Knox County State’s Attorney Jeremy Karlin is stepping down before his term ends later this year. Karlin – a Democrat and former Galesburg city council member – was elected to his first term as State’s Attorney in 2020. He’s leaving in September to return to private practice. He will be working for the James Kelly Law Firm, which provides general legal services to the city of Galesburg.
