KNOXVILLE, Iowa — Our Today in Iowa team visited Knoxville Thursday morning and had the chance to meet some of the city’s leaders and learn more about the Sprint Car Capital of the World, the history of the town, and what is new in the community.

Knoxville is home to Des Moines’ closest drop zone

WHO 13’s Calyn Thompson talked with Brian Hatch, Knoxville’s mayor, about what makes the town so special. His answer isn’t a surprise — it’s the passionate people who live there.

Knoxville Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Nathan Sage gave Calyn the lowdown on the history and economic growth of the city following the closure of the VA.

Cayln and Nathan continued their conversation but put it into high gear as they talked dirt-track racing and Knoxville Nationals.

Calyn Thompson interviewed FFA member Riley Reid, who’s hoping her Marion County Fair project will provide a full circle moment.
