College Football Analyst: One Tennessee Position Group Could Be Best in 25 Years

The Tennessee Volunteers project to have one of their most talented teams in recent memory. It could be good enough to reach the College Football Playoff in the upcoming season.

Perhaps the most substance on the Vols' 2024 squad is along the offensive and defensive lines. Albeit, one college football analyst thinks Tennessee could be particularly good at wide receiver.

SEC football analyst Chris Marler explored why Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava has a wide receiver room that is good enough to facilitate a playoff appearance in 2024.

"(Iamaleava) has what I think is the deepest and most talented receiving corps that Tennessee's had in 25 years. I mean, like, they are loaded. And they are always going to have one of the best offenses in the conference if not the country."

Josh Heupel's fast-paced offense was one of the best in the nation in 2022 before disappointment last season. Many expect it to bounce back.

If the offense returns to form, expect wide receivers Bru McCoy, Chris Brazzell II, Squirrel White and five-star freshman Mike Matthews to be a catalyst for the offensive explosion.

White is viewed as one of the faster playmakers in the SEC while Brazzell brings over 16.2 yards per reception and five touchdowns from Tulane in the transfer portal.

The Volunteers might not win the SEC, but a 10-2 season and College Football Playoff berth are strong possibilities in Heupel's fourth season in Knoxville.

Tennessee opens the season against Chattanooga on Aug. 31 before a signature nonconference game against the NC State Wolfpack in Week 2.
