Road work impacting East Tennessee drivers this weekend

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — As the closure of the Gay Street bridge continues, WATE’s Bo Williams has what drivers across East Tennessee need to be aware of this weekend.

The Gay Street Bridge has been closed since June 25 . On Wednesday, the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the City of Knoxville said they are waiting on the final inspection report before commenting further on the state of the bridge.

TDOT released its weekly construction report for July 19 through July 24 to share any ongoing or upcoming construction projects across the 24 East Tennessee counties.

Starting Monday, July 22, the connection between Alcoa Highway and West Topside Road will be closed for two weeks to construct a pedestrian tunnel beneath West Topside Road. Traffic will be detoured around the closure. To learn more, click here.

In addition, portions of Reagan Drive in Gatlinburg are closed as the city begins “an intensive project” to rehabilitate sewer lines under the road . Also in Sevier County, the City of Sevierville has begun a “significant road project” expected to cause lane closures on Old Knoxville Highway for multiple weeks.
