Knoxville (Tenn.) Webb School of Knoxville four-star 2026 cornerback Shavar Young has developed into a popular recruiting target for schools like Oregon, Notre Dame and South Carolina . And this weekend, he’ll get his first look at Miami .

The No. 122 overall prospect and No. 14 cornerback in the 2026 cycle is one of more than 50 expected visitors for Miami’s annual recruiting cookout this weekend and has communicated with secondary coach Chevis Jackson for “a very long time.” He said Jackson has been encouraging him to visit campus to see “what the culture is about, how they coach, scheme-wise how I fit into their system and things of that nature,” Young said.

“All of the stars that they put in the NFL (interests me),” Young said. “They had a DB ( Tyrique Stevenson ) that went in the second round last year. They produce DBs every year. I’m interested in the program. You know, I still have to see how things go on this visit because it’s going to be my first time going down there and interacting with them.”

Young said he wants to learn more about how he could fit into Miami’s defensive system and whether or not he could be properly developed in Coral Gables, which he said will be particularly important to him. He added Oregon, Kentucky, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Louisville, West Virginia and Clemson have been doing a great job developing relationships with him over the past several months.

He visited Oregon, Kentucky, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, Tennessee and Georgia earlier this year. He said each program aside from Notre Dame and Oregon have been in some form of communication with him since his eighth grade year and have built strong connections with him, and Miami caught his attention in January.

“Coach Jackson, he reached out to me and we were able to talk over the phone and discuss some things (shortly after he was hired this spring),” Young said. “We talk about life, checking in and football. How they rotate their DBs and how every DB plays every position in the back end and things like that.”

Young will visit Miami this weekend with his mother, father and younger sister.

    CaneSport’s Take

Miami being this far along in the 2025 class has allowed the Hurricanes to get a head start on the 2026 class and begin targeting elite prospects like Young, whom the Canes can make a move for with an impressive showing this weekend. Miami’s next goal should be to get him back for a game this fall.
