KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ( WATE ) — Knoxville Police investigators are asking for the public’s help to identify a group of people caught on camera near the area of a shots fired incident on University Avenue that happened on July 24.
According to a post shared on its social media Monday, the Knoxville Police Department shared a cache of photos and asked for help to identify the group of “pictured individuals, who were involved in a shots fired incident that happened on 7/24 in the area of University Ave and Dora St.” KPD also added that they left the scene in a stolen car that was later recovered.
KPD spokesperson Scott Erland shared with WATE 6 last week that officers responded to the 1300 block of University Avenue just after 7 p.m. on July 24.
“A witness reported hearing gunfire and seeing two groups of individuals running from the area,” Erland said. “One group reportedly ran down University Avenue while the other one ran up Dora Street towards Moses Avenue.”
The car that reportedly left the scene and was later recovered by police, a white Honda, was found abandoned in the 900 block of Woodland Avenue. Officers found evidence that five people, who have not been identified, got out of the car and ran from the scene. The car had been reported stolen from a home on Kingsmore Drive on the morning of July 23.
KPD said Monday that tipsters can contact the East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers group if they have information or know the identity of the individuals.
