Shawn Steward of AAA/Kansas tells KNSS News the cost to travel is down 2 percent from last year. Gasoline is cheaper this year, down 51 cents from a year ago. Kansas gas is 30 cents a gallon less than the national average, the tenth-cheapest gas prices in the USA. Steward says 85 to 90 percent of those traveling will be on the highway.

AAA Auto Club says domestic travel will be up 9 percent, compared to last Labor Day. Busy times: Thursday and Friday evenings.

Steward says AAA answered more than 1,300 roadside trouble calls in Kansas, so it's, "important to get your car in and get it checked."
