FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. ( KNWA/KFTA ) — Starting Aug. 26, 2024, Sonya Hill will anchor KNWA news at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. She will share the KNWA anchor desk with Doug Warner and Chief Meteorologist Dan Skoff.

Born and raised in Texas’ Coastal Bend region, Sonya enjoyed a bi-cultural small-town childhood in Sandia, Texas and Cerralvo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Sonya is a proud graduate of Orange Grove High School and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

Sonya’s curious nature and love for writing and storytelling led her to a career in TV News. Her decade-long career began in Corpus Christi, Texas where she started as a weather forecaster at KZTV Action 10 News in 2014. In the Coastal Bend she covered various severe weather events including widespread flooding in 2015 and Hurricane Harvey in August of 2017. During her time in Corpus Christi, she focused her storytelling efforts on crime-related stories. KZTV’s partnership with Corpus Christi Crime Stoppers led to the arrest of 300 wanted fugitives in the Coastal Bend area.

In 2022, Sonya accepted an evening anchor position at KVEO, the NBC affiliate in Texas’ Rio Grande Valley. In the Rio Grande Valley, Sonya covered a multitude of crime, border, and politics stories, including the lifting of pandemic-era policy Title 42 from the U.S./Mexico border, the SpaceX Starship IFT-3 launch and anchored President Biden’s visit to the southern border in 2024.

As a nature-lover, Sonya is thrilled to call Northwest Arkansas home and explore all the natural beauty the area offers. In her free time, Sonya can be found at the gym or Pilates studio, curled up with a good book, or relaxing near the closest body of water.
