A driver slammed into a cow that was wandering around a neighborhood in Sylmar Thursday morning.

It happened on Gladstone Avenue near the 210 Freeway. Residents saw the animal wandering the area around 3:00 a.m.

Video captured by KCAL showed the cow was walking on the street when a driver struck it. The cow crashed into the car’s left headlight and fell to the ground before quickly standing back up and walking away.

The driver told KCAL he was ok but he didn’t see the cow because it was dark out.

The cow eventually found its way back home, making its way through the open driveway gate back onto the property.

KNX News’ Jon Baird reported that when the police arrived, they closed the gate to make sure the cow was hemmed in.

The cow’s owner told reporters he believed one of the horses might have nudged the gate open, causing the cow to escape.
