MSSU Baseball tops Harding in walk-off fashion

JOPLIN, Mo. - The Missouri Southern Lions begins their first game in the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Lions are the host team in the Central Region at Warren Turner Field.

In the opening round, MSSU matches up with Harding University. The Lions jump out to a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the 4th. Harding responds to score three runs in the 5th inning. Heading into the top of the 9th, Southern leads 6-3. Harding rallies to score three more runs to tie the game 6-6.

In the bottom of the 9th, Garrett Rice steps up and delivers the game winning hit. A line drive into the gap gives Will Doherty enough time to score from first base. Rice's walk-off double proved to be the difference in MSSU's 7-6 win in the opening round.

The Lions advance to the winners bracket and will face the number 6 seeded Arkansas-Monticello Weevils. Game is scheduled for tomorrow at 5 pm.
