Memorial Day Service at Mount Hope Cemetery 2024

WEBB CITY, Mo. (KOAM) — This weekend is Memorial Day, set aside as America Honors military men and women who lost their lives in service to the country. The holiday is observed on the last Monday of May.

One of the Joplin areas most-historic cemeteries, Mount Hope Cemetery, 3700 North Rangeline, is holding special ceremonies.

In preparation for the event Easter Seals Midwest who serve adults with Autism, placed hundreds of flags on all Veterans graves at Mount Hope.

The Webb City ROTC Color Guard presented flags and remained for the entire ceremony.

Mount Hope General Manager Travis Boyd welcomed everyone to the event expressing it was their first service since Covid. Stating he was glad Scott Hettinger of Charlie 22 Outdoors contacted him so their services could begin again.

Travis introduced Lynn Ragsdale, Mayor of Webb City. He and his wife led all in the National Anthem. He shared a few words and introduced the featured speaker Ret. Col. Mark Costello.
