NEOSHO COUNTY, Kan. (KOAM) - The Court scheduled a plea hearing for Neosho County Attorney Linus Thuston accused of tax evasion and misuse of public funds.

Thuston appeared in Neosho County court this morning in Erie, Kansas. He did not enter a plea today but turned himself into the Sheriff's Office Wednesday afternoon. Thuston will be released after going through paperwork.

The plea hearing is scheduled for September 4, 2024.

Last Thursday, the Kansas Attorney General's office filed two misdemeanor charges against Thuston. Prosecutors claim Thuston willfully failed to pay required sales tax on or around November 23, 2021, and misused public funds on or around December 24, 2019.

According to Neosho County Sheriff Greg Taylor, out of 11 criminal complaints, prosecutors only filed two charges against Thuston.

If guilty the charges could hold up to 18 months of prison time for Thuston.
