Teen boy drowns on Elk River, flown from Noel after life-saving measures

NOEL, Mo. (KOAM) — About 5 p.m. Wednesday reports of a drowning near Downtown Noel on Elk River alerted McDonald County E-911.

Noel Fire Dept, Noel Marshals, Freeman Ambulance responded. Nearby McDonald County Sheriff’s Deputies and an off-duty Anderson Police Officer heard the call, rushing to assist.

A 15-year-old boy had gone underwater an unknown amount of time. Bystanders helped rescue him from the water and life-saving measures were performed as he was in cardiac arrest.

They were able to get a pulse after using an automated external defibrillator (AED). An AED is a portable device that can be used to treat a person whose heart has suddenly stopped working.

Authorities set an LZ (landing zone) at the soccer fields on North Cliffside Drive as Mercy Lifeline was summoned from Rogers, Ark. The teen was flown to an unknown regional hospital.
