KDOT seeks public input on safe routes to school program

(KOAM) - The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) is inviting the public to participate in shaping the future of the state's Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program through an online survey and a series of virtual webinars.

The input gathered from these initiatives will help guide future SRTS programs and recommendations.

The SRTS program aims to encourage more children to walk, bike, or roll to school by improving safety and promoting health and physical activity. These efforts can also lead to reduced traffic, better air quality, and cost savings for families.

KDOT is particularly encouraging parents, city employees, school staff, and SRTS practitioners and advocates to participate in the 15-minute online survey, which is available at this link . The deadline for completing the survey is September 30, 2024.

In addition to the survey, KDOT will be hosting four virtual webinars in September, tailored to different groups interested in implementing SRTS activities. The schedule is as follows (CST):

• Public Health Practitioners: September 11, 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
• PTO and Parents: September 11, 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
• School Administrators and Teachers: September 11, 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
• City/County Planners and Engineers: September 12, 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
