Independence Main St. milling, overlay project to start next week

INDEPENDENCE, Kan. (KOAM) - A milling and overlay project will begin next week on Main Street from 2nd Street to 8th Street. To reduce traffic disruptions, most work will take place late in the evening, with the street open to vehicles during the day.

Sidewalk replacements may cause temporary closures or congestion.

Concrete improvements will also be made at several downtown intersections, but work will pause during Neewollah, October 18-26, and will only start at Penn & Main and 6th & Main if completed before the festival.

Motorists and pedestrians should exercise caution and patience in the work zones.
