UPDATE: MultCo District 4 candidate takes winning lead

PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — As of Thursday evening, Multnomah County commissioner candidate Vince Jones-Dixon has eked out 50.06% of the vote for the District 4 position, giving him just enough of a lead to potentially avoid a November runoff.

Jones-Dixon currently has 13,582 votes, which is 2,322 more votes than his closest competitor, Brian Knotts. As of 5 p.m. Thursday, Jones-Dixon holds a winning lead by 32 votes. KOIN 6 News attempted to contact Jones-Dixon for comment about the potentially narrow margin of victory. However, the current Gresham city councilor could not be reached.

Multnomah County Elections Director Tim Scott told KOIN 6 News Friday morning that the county had approximately 23,500 yet-to-be-counted ballots in hand. It was initially unclear if three were enough uncounted, District 4 ballots remaining to push Jones-Dixon into a winning position. However, as of Thursday evening, Jones is moving toward a victory in the May primary.
