Skateboarders take over Southeast Portland intersection

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — What is typically a dangerous Southeast Portland intersection was transformed — at least temporarily — into a popup skateboard park.

Two non-profits, Depave and Push Movement, teamed up to make the intersection at SE 7th and Sandy a skatepark.

Hillsboro Great Dane nominated for ‘unusual’ pet insurance award

The event, part of a fundraiser for Push Movement, aims to show “how overpaved spaces can be repurposed to serve disenfranchised communities, who often don’t have access to a third place.”

Stevie Moe, the operations instructor for Push Movement, told KOIN 6 News they’re trying to build inclusivity into the skateboarding world.

“I think it naturally is an inclusive space,” Moe said, “So having this be very public, be very centrally located, people can expect to come out and join the community very easily.”

The temporary skatepark will be at the intersection until September.
