PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) – Construction is underway for the North Greeley Avenue exit ramp under Interstate 5 this week, impacting southbound traffic through the workweek.

The closure, related to the Beech Trunk Sewer Project , began Monday morning and will impact traffic between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. through Friday, Aug. 30.

“You may experience traffic delays near the active work zone and noise from generators and sewer cleaning equipment,” the Portland Bureau of Environmental Services said in their explanation of the process. Please follow all construction and traffic signage to help keep our works zones safe

Northbound traffic will not be impacted because left turns onto Greeley Avenue will provide access to the west side of Interstate Avenue.

The Beech Trunk Sewer Project will repair large-diameter sewer pipes to “reduce the risks of basement sewer backups, flooding, and emergency repairs in the future,” according to officials.
