PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — Boxcars are chugging past Lake Oswego’s homes again after a trestle fire temporarily halted train traffic in the area.

The early morning fire engulfed the trestle before firefighters extinguished the blaze near Fairoaks Drive in Clackamas County on Aug. 20. However, Portland & Western Railroad spokesperson Tom Ciuba told KOIN 6 News that the trestle and the connecting bridge that crosses the Willamette River were put back into service six days later.

The Clackamas Fire District told KOIN on Aug. 27 that firefighters have since handed the investigation over to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office. However, investigators have not provided any details on the fire’s cause.

“No new updates to report other than this remains an open and active investigation,” Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Brian McCall told KOIN 6 News. “At this time, we are not releasing any further information as to the cause.”
