LAWRENCE COUNTY, Mo. — The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) says a massive cleanup and rescue operations are taking place in the southern part of the county following a tornado that hit the area Wednesday, May 8.

The Aurora Rural Fire Protection District says multiple structures are damaged and that there are people who suffered minor injuries in the area.

LCSO is advising residents to avoid the cleanup area unless they have property in the area or are helping with the cleanup. Increased traffic in the area is causing problems for emergency crews who are leading cleanup efforts.

LCSO thanks residents for their cooperation.
