Logan Williams, a recent Kossuth High grad and Holmes Community College baseball signee, died Tuesday morning in a vehicle crash, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office.

Around 6:36 a.m., the LCSD and the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a call about an accident on state Route 30 near Oxford Sand and Gravel.

According to the MHP, Williams was traveling east on Route 30 when his car entered the westbound lane and struck an 18-wheeler. The Alcorn County News first reported that Williams was identified by the Lafayette County Coroner’s Office and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The status of the man in the other vehicle, identified as Carlton A. Beard, has not been released.

Kossuth posted on social media about Williams, 18, a former pitcher and outfielder for the program. Kossuth, the top seed in MHSAA Class 3A, reached the second round of the state playoffs in 2024.

"It is with very heavy hearts that we ask for prayers for the family of Logan Williams," the post said. "Please pray for our Kossuth family, and the class of 2024. Logan was tragically killed this morning in a car accident. We need our Kossuth family to lift them up in prayer and to be there for them now more than ever …"

Williams had plans to play baseball at Holmes College and major in respiratory therapy.

The crash is still under investigation, according to MHP.
