Texas State Fair announces food winners for its Big Tex Choice Awards

The State Fair of Texas announced the winners of its annual Big Tex Choice Awards for the best new fair foods on Thursday afternoon.

When it comes to new foods at the State Fair of Texas, the Martinez family is officially a dynasty. For the fifth time, they've taken home one of the Big Tex Choice Awards.

Justin Martinez, who's been doing this for years, won the savory competition for his Dominican Fritura Dog. He stated that he did it for his dad, who was his partner at the fair until he passed away earlier this year.

In the sweet category, the winner was the Cotton Candy-Wrapped Bacon.

"It is a special pig we have found that... is half inch thick and... we have the perfect glaze on it and the cotton candy wrapper makes it something special," said Issac Russo, the inventor of the sweet treat.

These are just two of 10 new food items this year. Fair officials will be printing maps to help everyone locate them at this year's fair event.
