There were two security threats in the North Texas School District Monday.

In Dallas, new security measures went into effect today at Solar Preparatory School for Boys after school leaders confiscated a gun from a student Friday thanks to a tip from another student.

The district sent parents a letter Friday about what happened with the principal saying they don't know how the student got the gun, but that they would be disciplined.

The new security measures include metal detectors for kids in 6th through 8th grade, and backpack checks for kids who are in the third grade and up. A parents' safety meeting will be happening Monday night at 6 p.m. in the school auditorium to talk about all this.

Also on Monday, Southlake Police are working with the Carroll School District after someone reported a potential threat through the district's "STOPit" system.

The district says the threat did not mention a specific campus, but they're taking it seriously just the same and increased security at each campus today.
