Beloved East Bay children's attraction to welcome adults for one night only this Friday

( KRON ) — One of the East Bay’s most beloved attractions for children is set to welcome adults for a special evening this week. Oakland’s Children’s Fairyland is partnering with Oaklandish for the annual Fairyland for Grownups event on Friday, Aug. 16.

The event, which is the 12th annual installment, will see Fairyland open its gates for adults beginning at 6 p.m. through 10 p.m. Friday. The event will offer “a rare opportunity for grownups to explore the whimsical world of Fairyland, a place typically reserved for children and their families,” Fairyland said in an announcement.

“Fairyland for Grownups transforms the beloved storybook park into an adults-only playground,” Fairyland said. Adults 21 and over can enjoy a dance party in Merry Meadow with DJ Dion Decibels, a live performance from the band The Prototype, puppet shows, and the park’s signature attractions, like Willie the Whale and the Alice in Wonderland card maze.

“Although the animals and rides will be closed for the evening, the enchanting atmosphere of Fairyland will be fully accessible,” Fairyland said.

This year’s event is extended from three hours to four with additional bar stations throughout the park. Admission — $35 per person, $30 for Fairyland members — includes three drink tickets, with beer, wine and cocktails available. There will also be “a selection of Oakland’s finest food vendors” on hand, offering “a variety of delicious bites,” Fairyland said.

Proceeds from the event will support Children’s Fairyland providing affordable access to children, summer camp scholarships, and outreach programs like Fairyland for All.
