Popular Japanese pancake restaurant to close first US location in San Francisco

( KRON ) — A popular Japanese pancake cafe is closing its Stonestown location in San Francisco. Gram Cafe & Pancakes’ last day of operation at the SF mall is on Aug. 27, the business announced on social media.

The restaurant, which opened back in 2019, is located between the Target and Apple stores. The Stonestown location serving “Premium Pancakes” is the first Gram Cafe & Pancakes in the United States.

Gram Cafe & Pancakes is calling the closure “bittersweet.” However, the restaurant says they plan on relocating somewhere in the Bay Area “soon” but didn’t specify when and where.

One Instagram comment on Gram Cafe & Pancakes’ USA page — which has nearly 14,000 followers — suggested that the business open in the South Bay. “Maybe (wink face emoji),” Gram Cafe & Pancakes replied in response.

The only other Gram Cafe & Pancakes location in the U.S. is in Los Angeles at Monterey Park, which opened last year.

Gram Cafe & Pancakes was founded in 2014 by Takeshi Takata in Osaka, Japan. There are more than 60 total locations in other countries like Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia and the Philippines.

KRON4 asked Gram Cafe & Pancakes where its new Bay Area location will be. We did not receive a response in time for publication.
