( KRON ) — Four Bay Area suburbs are among the safest in the nation, according to a report . Palo Alto, Mountain View, Pacifica and Livermore all ranked in the top 20 of America’s safest suburbs in a recent quality of life study from SmartAsset.

In the study, SmartAsset ranked 360 suburbs from major U.S. cities, from most to least safe. Top honors for the safest suburb in America went to Lehi, UT. Bethesday, MD came in at number 2, with Layton, UT, Rockville, MD and Great Falls, VA rounding out the top 5.

The Bay Area burbs were the only California suburbs to crack the top 20. Of the four local suburbs ranked among the safest, Palo Alto ranked the highest at 11th. Mountain View and Pacifica came in at 14th and 15th respectively. Livermore came in a few spots lower at 19th.

In the expanded list, Tiburon ranked 23, San Mateo ranked 25 and Sausalito ranked 31. The first California suburb outside of the Bay Area to make the list is Redondo Beach at 35.

Data and methodology for study

To reach its findings for the study, SmartAsset crunched data for the following metrics:

• Violent crime rate
• Property crime rate
• Vehicular mortality rate
• Drug poisoning mortality rate
• Percentage of population engaged in excessive drinking

To be considered in the study, suburbs needed to be within 15 to 45 minutes by car to one of the 100 largest cities in the U.S. and have at least 5,000 residents.
