OAKLAND, Calif. ( KRON ) – Families are grieving after a shooting over the weekend in Oakland left two people dead and seriously injured two others. Police say someone opened fire into a group of people during an argument just after 9 a.m. Saturday.

Waltrice Dilliehunt, 35, was one of those killed, according to her family. Her sister, Angel Tanner, was shot as well and went into surgery Monday to remove several bullets. Her recovery is still not known.

The family says they’re sick and tired of gun violence in Oakland and are demanding something must be done to stop it.

“I just want to say I miss my daughter,” said Tonya Vanhock, who is Dilliehunt’s mother. “I miss her so much.”

Vanhock says her daughter was one of those killed in the on 83rd Street in southeast Oakland. It happened just one week after Dilliehunt’s birthday.

Dilliehunt leaves behind two children – one just four years old. Tanner was shot four times and is fighting for her life in the hospital, her family says.

“I’m just glad I didn’t lose her too. Just glad she’s still here,” said Nafessha King, a sister of the victims.

The family was in Oakland Saturday to celebrate Tanner’s daughter’s birthday. Police say an argument led to the shooting that targeted four people. The gunman is still on the loose.

“That’s not ok, it’s not ok, people take guns now and shoot people,” said Vanhock. “That’s not ok because that’s so final.”

The family says that the violence in Oakland must be stopped and that people in Oakland are losing hope.

“It’s just evil after evil. I don’t know why everybody is so cruel, it’s every day,” King said. “All day, it’s crime, shooting robberies. When it is enough?”

King also says that she used to live in the same complex as Dilliehunt and that she saw and heard of people being shot multiple times until they moved out just last year. She also says the man who shot her sisters was a neighbor.

The Oakland Police Department last told KRON4 they are working to investigate the shooting. They did not provide an update when asked on Monday. The gunman remains at large.
