Cat ‘alert and meowing’ after being rescued from fire and given oxygen: SJFD

( KRON ) — A firefighter was injured, and a cat was resuscitated Thursday morning as San Jose firefighters responded to a two-alarm residential fire. The involved structure was a two-story home on the 5500 block of Century Manor Court in South San Jose.

According to the San Jose Fire Department, one firefighter was transported to the hospital with burn injuries. The firefighter suffered burns to the upper back, neck and ear. The injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

A cat that was rescued from the fire was “alert and meowing” after being given oxygen, fire officials said. The cat, fire officials told KRON4.com , sustained “significant burns.”

A dog was also rescued from the fire alive. However, the status of its injuries is not known at this time.

The fire was knocked down shortly before 9 a.m. There was no initial word on what caused the blaze or the extent of the damage. Officials initially said that three people were displaced as a result of the fire. However, in an update, SJFD clarified that the number of displaced individuals was four.
