CHP reported that the incident occurred at 5:20 a.m. on Thursday when the officer pulled over a 2006 Ford Mustang on U.S. 101 at the Bradley Rest Area in Monterey County for a traffic violation.

During the stop, the officer noticed “several factors” that suggested the driver might be involved in criminal activity. The officer then had his K-9 partner, Rae, perform an exterior sniff of the vehicle, during which the dog “gave a positive alert,” according to CHP.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered the drugs, which have an estimated street value of $120,000.

The driver, identified as 39-year-old Pablo Politronestrada from Salinas, California, was taken into custody and booked into the Monterey County Jail. He faces charges of possession of methamphetamine for sale and transportation of methamphetamine.
