San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan discusses support of Prop. 36

(Inside California Politics) — San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan joined Inside California Politics co-host Nikki Laurenzo to discuss his support of Proposition 36.

That measure, which voters will decide on in November, aims to reform 2014 voter-approved Proposition 47. Prop. 36 would also strengthen theft and drug laws if approved.

Mayor Mahan is among a handful of Democratic mayors in California who support the measure, which Republican leaders and law enforcement mostly support.

Mahan also responds to criticism from Governor Gavin Newsom, who is against Prop. 36 and has accused the Democrats of supporting the measure for political positioning.
