ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – For the first time, the Albuquerque Public Schools superintendent will give a formal speech to discuss the direction APS is headed. Dr. Gabriella Blakey will deliver the inaugural State of the District on August 28 at the Berna Facio Professional Development Complex on Louisiana.

It will come nearly 60 days into Blakey’s tenure as the district’s top official. School board member Courtney Jackson said constituents want to hear a frank assessment on where the district stands, both positive and negative.

“They also want somebody to just be honest. Things that aren’t going well, and also what the plan is to improve. And that is what Doctor Blakey intends to do and I think the community is really going to appreciate that,” said Jackson.

APS expected the address to become an annual event.
