ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A lot of hearings in Metro Court were canceled Friday morning after worries about a disease spreading at the Metropolitan Detention Center.

“There was a concern about potential infection of others and so a decision was made to send all the morning inmates back to MDC because there was some confusion about exposure and whatnot. And out of an abundance of caution, to protect everyone, the court did make a determination that was appropriate,” said Judge Brett Loveless.

KRQE News 13 reached out to New Mexico courts to see what the issue is and how many cases have been impacted. KRQE News 13 did not receive an answer.

The New Mexico Department of Health told KRQE News 13 that they were not told of any health issues at MDC.
