    Suspect dies after SWAT callout near Downtown Albuquerque

    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque Police Department (APD) reported they tried to arrest someone near Broadway and Lead when the suspect died.

    APD claimed the incident started when officers were told someone had just shoplifted from the Familly Dollar on Broadway. They said the suspect was armed, yelling he didn’t want to go back to jail. He reportedly barricaded themself in a shed in the 400 block of Arno SE.

    Airman stationed at New Mexico base dies

    SWAT officers were called to negotiate with the suspect. During negotiations, police said the suspect fired his gun.

    At 7:06 p.m., APD stated the suspect was shot. The incident is considered an officer-involved shooting, and the suspect died due to their wounds.

    The suspect hasn’t been identified, and both officers who fired their weapons were placed on administrative leave.
