NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – FEMA has extended its deadline for those affected by the South Fork and Salt Fires to apply for federal assistance.

The agency originally had an August 19 deadline, but they have extended that day at the request of Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.

Individuals and families affected by the fires and subsequent floods can be eligible for rental assistance, temporary housing, repairs, property losses, and other disaster-related needs not covered by insurance.

Those affected now have until October 19 to apply for the assistance.

FEMA said the Small Business Administration also extended their deadline for disaster loans to the same day.
