ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man facing charges after police said his brother shot and killed an innocent bystander during a fight on the West Mesa last weekend will not be held through his trial. Andi Parra is facing charges for aggravated battery and negligent use of a deadly weapon.

Albuquerque man sentenced for fatal 2023 shooting

Witnesses told police that Parra attacked a man with a gun at the Flying J Truck Stop on 98th Street leading to a fight. During the fight, Parra’s brother, Adan Munoz, opened fire at two witnesses but hit Maikel Torre Alba-Romero killing her.

The state asked Parra be held on the charges. They said multiple witnesses said Parra started the fight that led to Romero’s death. Parra’s lawyer argued he should be released saying that witness testimony could be biased and that Parra has no criminal history. Judy Cindy Leos ruled that there isn’t enough evidence to keep Parra locked up through trial.
