    APD partnering to host gun buyback event on August 24

    NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence is hosting its 20th Guns to Gardens buyback event. They will be partnering with APD, United Soccer, Crime Stoppers, Isotopes and UNM Lobos to put on the event.

    UNM police to begin using body cameras

    The gun buyback will be Saturday, August 24, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the APD University Substation. The safe surrender event gives the community an opportunity to exchange unwanted guns for cash or tickets to the Lobos, Isotopes or United games while supplies last. People are able to turn in as many guns as they would like, the guns will be collected with no questions asked and no information retained.

    • $250.00 for an assault weapon
    • $200.00 for a semi-automatic handgun or semi-automatic rifle
    • $100.00 for a long guns, revolvers and pistols

    As part of the Guns to Gardens event, the collected guns will be dismantled and the scrap metal will be used to make gardening tools and art pieces. For more information, click here.
