NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Atomic City Transit in Los Alamos has announced it will be suspending its Bandelier shuttle service next week.

The department said the suspension was due to a severe driver shortage, saying they are short seven regular drivers and six limited-term drivers. The final day of the service will be August 28.

“Our shortage of trained drivers has forced supervisors and dispatch staff to take on driving duties as a temporary measure, which compromises their ability to train new hires effectively,” said Public Works Director Juan Rael.

Bandelier National Monument will remain open to visitors, who will be allowed to drive into Frijoles Canyon. That change starts on August 29.

White Rock Visitor Center will also adjust its hours, opening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
