ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man is helping a village in Africa using pickleball.

Serge Nana is hosting a tournament this month to help raise funds for kids to have school supplies. Nana was born in Mogtédo, which is a town in Burkina Faso, located in West Africa.

His family moved to Albuquerque when he was 13, and he later founded the non-profit Thrive Mogtédo to help children in his hometown.

Now, they’re hoping to raise funds by hosting a pickleball tournament.

“It’s a fun sport to play, and I said, ‘Why not put a pickleball event for people to come and support our organization,'” said Thrive Mogtédo Founder Serge Nana.

Nana said they are currently looking for about 64 participants for the tournament.

It will take place on September 14 at the Manzano Mesa Multi-generational Center. If you’re interested in participating, you can get more information by clicking here.
