EL PASO, Texas ( K.T.S.M. ) — New Mexico police issued over 2,300 traffic citations during the Combined Accident Reduction Effort (C.A.R.E.) operation throughout the Labor Day Weekend, according to New Mexico State Police (NMSP).

NMSP said the C.A.R.E. operation was carried out throughout the state to increase driver safety and reduce the number of crashes.

According to NMSP, officers issued over 2,300 traffic citations, 133 of which were for not wearing a seat belt.

Officers also arrested 30 impaired drivers and investigated 37 crashes, with only one crash being fatal, according to NMSP.

According to NMSP, the operation was also carried out with the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Bureau, which issued 268 commercial vehicle citations and performed 686 commercial vehicle inspections.

Motorists’ safety is the top priority, and officers will continue holiday travel operations throughout the year, NMSP said.
