Man killed in confrontation outside KCMO business identified as well-known chef

A man died when he was shot after confronting multiple suspects who were gathered around a vehicle in the parking lot of a Brookside business, police said.

The shooting happened just before 5:20 p.m. near East 63rd Street and Rockhill Road in Kansas City, Missouri.

A preliminary investigation found the victim had been taking out trash when he saw the suspects.

The gunfire rang out shortly after the man confronted the suspects, police said.

The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department later identified the victim as 44-year-old Shaun Brady.

It wasn't known immediately how many suspects were involved, but police did say multiple people ran from the scene after the gunfire.

Early Thursday morning, Mayor Quinton Lucas posted about Brady's death on social media.

Brady's KC, his restaurant, also posted on Facebook about his death.

No other information on the suspects were immediately available.

This was the 104th homicide of the year.
