BENTON, Kan. (KSNW) — The Kansas Department of Transportation is hosting a public meeting on planned improvements for the Kansas Highway 254 corridor.

The highway linking Wichita and El Dorado has a long history of accidents due to it intersecting multiple county roads between the two cities. Traffic has increased through the area as northeast Wichita and Bel Aire continue to expand.

The highway will see even more traffic if the proposed $2 billion Integra Technologies semi-conductor CHIP plant receives funding under the CHIPS Act .

The planning process on the K-254 Corridor Management Plan began in the summer of 2023. Two public meetings have already taken place, and public input has been collected. That input, new data analysis, and findings were collected to draft proposed improvements for the corridor.

KDOT is hosting a third meeting this Wednesday, May 22, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. A presentation will begin at 5:45 p.m. The public can review exhibits on proposed changes, improvements, and alternatives and provide feedback.

The meeting will take place in the commons area of Circle Middle School, 14697 SW 20th St in Benton .
