    2 Kansas school districts cancel classes over power outage

    WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Two Kansas school districts canceled classes on Thursday due to power outages.

    USD 396 Douglass and USD 439 Sedgwick will not be in session.

    Overnight, severe storms with high winds pushed through the area, causing power outages and knocking down trees. The City of Sedgwick reported that there was extensive tree damage throughout the city.

    As of 9 a.m., Evergy reported 8,339 outages in Kansas. This is down from approximately 37,000 outages overnight, with Topeka, Wichita, Newton and Leavenworth heavily impacted. For more on the outages, click here.

    In McPherson County, 911 reports multiple power lines down and damage to homes around 22nd Avenue between Eisenhower and Dakota Roads. KSN News crews caught a toppled semi and damaged car windows at Love’s truck stop.

    West of McPherson, in Rice County, 30 power poles were knocked down in the Geneseo area. Crews say it’s unlikely customers in the area will have power until mid-day.
