‘Intense damage’: Topeka picking up after storm

TOPEKA, Kan. ( KSNT ) – A storm caused “intense damage” to parts of north Topeka.

City Council member Christina Valdivia-Alcala took to social media to inform Oakland residents of the current situation. According to Valdivia-Alcala, intense damage was caused to the Oakland, north Topeka and Potwin areas.

Valdivia-Alcala said public works crews are assessing damage and clearing tree debris. She said some streets and areas won’t be open until Evergy moves the powerlines.

“Crews in public works and utilities are out already this morning, and I just encourage everyone to be patient,” Valdivia-Alcala said.

USD 501 Topeka also informed parents that there would be a 2-hour delay .
