RUSSELL, Kan. (KSNW) — The City of Russell asked its residents to observe additional water conservation efforts in addition to mandatory measures Sunday afternoon.

An emergency alert was issued just after 4 p.m. and resolved just after 7:30 p.m.

“The city is experiencing a critical issue impacting our water production facilities that requires immediate action from our community,” read the emergency alert from the City of Russell.

The City asked residents to delay the following high-water usage activities until water production facilities are back online:

    • Washing laundry
    • Washing dishes
    • Any other high water usage activities

The issue with our SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system that prompted the request for additional conservation measures has been resolved. Our dedicated water operators took swift action, and our SCADA programmer responded promptly, working collaboratively to correct the problem. Thanks to their efforts, the water plant is now fully operational.

While the mandatory water conservation measures remain in effect due to ongoing water source limitations, we are pleased to lift the previously requested voluntary conservation measures. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this time.”
