MULVANE, Kan. (KSNW) — Mulvane football head coach Daniel Myears has coached some successful teams, but after back-to-back losing seasons, the Wildcats are looking to bounce back in a tough Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League.

Last season, the Wildcats started strong at 3-0 but lost their final six games. That losing streak left a bad taste in their mouths, and they’re motivated not to let that happen again.

To do that, Myears said they need what every good team has: confidence.

“Everybody has that goal and can say that goal, and there’s some big dogs,” Myears said. “And it’s a very competitive league. But I think it’s confidence. The team that gets going and has everything rolling at the right time, you know, going the right direction. I can think back to Park City a few years ago. You know, they got on a roll in the playoffs. And that’s a team that, you know, you tell guys like, ‘We can be there. We can do that.’ I mean, just play the right football at the right time.”

That motivation isn’t just for the seventh-year head coach but also for the players, especially the seniors, who haven’t had a winning record since their freshman years.

“I think this season, we’ve all been playing together since kindergarten, and so we’ve all grown up with each other,” senior linebacker Dylan Rogers said. “We are all going to school together and everything. So we’re very close this year, and we like all the new guys coming in.”

“I just think facing adversity is a really big thing,” senior wide receiver Brady Nelson said. “Like kind of we were into last year. We kind of had some guys give up, and I think we need to be all in all season this year.”

“I feel like we’re all just ready to go, and it’s like we’re starting off a lot farther off than we did last year,” senior offensive lineman Preston Gube said.
